Professional Summary

Nicholas accepts briefs to advise and appear in all areas of law, and is most extensively experienced in defamation, privacy and breach of confidence matters. Nicholas is one of the leading junior counsel in defamation and media law, having appeared in a number of the most high profile cases since coming to the Bar.He acts for both plaintiffs and defendants and is often unled, including against Senior Counsel.His practice is national and he has appeared in defamation matters in Western Australia, Queensland and Victoria, as well as in the New South Wales and Federal courts. Nicholas also has a particular interest in medical negligence matters.Having been junior counsel for Prof. Munjed Al Muderis in Al Muderis v Nine Network Australia Pty Ltd, a long-running defamation case in which the respondents alleged that Prof. Al Muderis had been negligent in his treatment of over 30 patients, Nicholas is well-placed to advise both plaintiffs and defendants in complex medical negligence cases. In 2021 and 2023, Nicholas taught the subject Media Law: Defamation and Privacy at the University of Sydney. Nicholas regularly delivers seminars and CPDs to the profession on topics in defamation and privacy law.
