Mr Fitzgerald has since 2002 acted as an arbitrator and mediator and provided binding determinations in Australia and overseas in relation to a wide range of disputes. Prior to that, he was a judge. He was the inaugural President of the Qld Court of Appeal and also served as a judge of the NSW Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of the ACT. He has been a Queen’s Counsel/King’s Counsel for almost 50 years. Mr Fitzgerald has also conducted four public inquiries, including a major inquiry into official corruption in Queensland. In addition, he has held a number of public offices. He is an honorary professor at Griffith University, was a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne Law School and the inaugural Chancellor of the University of the Sunshine Coast and holds honorary doctorates from three universities. Mr Fitzgerald is a Companion of the Order of Australia.
