Tim was called to the Bar in 2018 and is a leading specialist in the field of media law, with expertise in defamation, injurious falsehood, breach of confidence, and contempt of court. Tim also provides advice on privacy law and data protection, including to organisations responding to cyber incidents. In addition to his media work, Tim practises in the area of intentional torts (assault, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution) and has wide experience in commercial litigation. Tim is recognised as leading technology, media & telecommunications junior counsel (NSW) in Doyle’s Guide and was ranked preeminent junior counsel in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Prior to being called to the Bar, Tim was a solicitor at Banki Haddock Fiora Lawyers, specialising in media and defamation law. He was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2008 and qualified as a solicitor advocate in 2009. Tim practised at a boutique media law firm in London, where his work included high profile defamation and privacy law matters.  Tim has appeared as a barrister in numerous media law cases (led and unled in jury and judge alone trials) and been involved in landmark decisions, both at first instance and in the appellate courts. Scott v Bodley (No 2) [2022] NSWDC 651. Appearing unled for the defendant in one of the first separate determinations of serious harm under s 10A of the Defamation Act 2005. McLachlan v Browne and Fairfax Media Publications Pty Ltd; Australian Broadcasting Corporation.Appearing as junior counsel for two media organisations in respect of defamation proceedings commenced by actor Craig McLachlan. Tim also appears at short notice in respect of applications concerning court reporting, contempt and injunctive relief and provides pre-publication legal advice to media organisations and literary publishers.
