Samuel is a leading junior counsel at the NSW Bar and is regularly briefed as sole counsel in final, appellate and interlocutory matters, and led in larger, commercially complex and significant matters. He has appeared in courts and tribunals throughout Australia in a diverse range of matters including large commercial litigation, complex procedural disputes, private arbitrations, and appeals. He acts and has acted for leading individuals, companies and governmental bodies including Mrs Gina Rinehart, Wesfarmers, Meta Inc, Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd, BGC Group, ME Bank, Zen Energy, Patties Foods, the State of New South Wales, NSW Land and Housing Corporation, Infrastructure NSW, and the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs of Australia. Samuel holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (Distinction) from the University of Oxford where he studied on several scholarships and, among other academic honours, came first in both the ‘Commercial Remedies’ and the ‘Principles of Civil Procedure’ courses. He had previously graduated from the University of Sydney with First Class Honours in Law, where he came first in his final year of study. Before coming to the Bar, Samuel was a Senior Associate in the Commercial Litigation practice group of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, where he acted for and advised public and private companies (domestic and international), government agencies, retail banks, investment management firms, liquidators, and trustees. Samuel’s writing on constitutional law has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He has both authored a chapter in Zuckerman on Civil Procedure: Principles of Practice (Thompson Reuters, 2021) and written a research paper for the Disability Royal Commission. Samuel previously worked as a tipstaff to the Hon. Acting Justice Sackville AO and the Hon. Acting Justice Emmett AO of the NSW Court of Appeal.
